In the United States, school is obligatory from the age of six.
Kids go the the Kindergarten between the ages of four and six.
After the Kindergarten, the classes are numbered. It starts with the First grade which is the first year and goes until 12th grade which is the twelfth, when students take the final exam at the age of 16-18.
The standard and obligatory school program consist of the following subjects: English, maths, physical education, sciences and social studies. English litterature start in 9th grade. In Junior High (grades 7 to 8), students have art, health, foreign languages and technology classes. In High School (grades 9-12), these classes become optional or elective.
